CFL Picks: Aug 11

By Mitchell Blair

There have been some great teams in the CFL. Teams like the ‘89 Eskimos, the ‘09 Alouettes and the ‘97 Argonauts are three that come to mind. You might want to add the ‘22 Bombers to that list.

How can you bet against the Bombers right now? They are a perfect 9-0 going into a home game tonight against the Montreal Alouettes. Montreal hung tough at home with Winnipeg last week, but the Blue Bombers controlled the 4th quarter and won by 14.

Winnipeg is a big favourite at home tonight and I’m taking them to cover the points. They don’t blow teams out, but they are winning games by double digits and they are covering the spread. They are 7-2 ATS this season. Montreal got a boost at home last week, but that boost goes to the other sidelines tonight. Winnipeg is simply a couple of levels ahead of Montreal and barring some kind of injury to Zach Collaros. I expect this one to be another Winnipeg double digit victory.

PICK: Winnipeg -11.5 (-110) at Coolbet

It's Game 2 of a four-game in five week stretch for Toronto and Hamilton. Has the CFL fired its schedule maker yet? In Game 1, Hamilton seemed to have control, but as they have done several times, they let things get away in the second half. This is a team that has been outscored 154-58 in the second half this year and by a whopping 95-29 margin in the fourth quarter. That’s not a formula for success. I want to take Hamilton because on paper they have a better team, but I can’t. I have zero confidence in them right now and while Toronto won’t win all four in this series, I’ve got them winning this one.

PICK: Toronto ML (+107) at Bet99

BC is in Calgary Saturday as the Nathan Rourke show comes to McMahon Stadium.  How can you not keep riding what Nathan Rourke is doing. He is on pace to beat Doug Flutie's touchdown record by six and he could throw for 6000 yards. Calgary's offense can't hang with BC. I like the Lions in what could be a high-scoring affair in a game that is a virtual pick-em.

PICK: BC ML (-132) at Coolbet

The final game of the week has Saskatchewan in Edmonton. The Elks are coming off getting crushed again. The Riders are one of the biggest mysteries in the CFL this year and they are coming off a bye week. I don’t know if they have a team that can win by more than a touchdown and that number is too big for me. Edmonton will be more competitive against BC and it was tough for Saskatchewan to win at Commonwealth earlier this season. I like the Riders on the road, but I do like Edmonton to cover.

PICK: Edmonton +6.5 (-110) at Bet99
