Golf Picks: July 25 - Rocket Mortgage Classic
Detroit Golf Club, Detroit, MI
This week we head to Detroit, MI for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. We are two weeks away from the start of the playoffs, and many golfers are desperately trying to cling to a top-125 position in order to qualify for the FedEx St. Jude Championship (TPC Southwind, Memphis, Tennessee). Like last week, the field this week won’t be the deepest, but there are some big names teeing it up such as Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Will Zalatoris, Cameron Young and Max Homa. Last year’s winner Cam Davis will look to repeat as champion. He had a memorable playoff as he out-battled Troy Merritt and Joaquin Niemann to take home the title.
The top-3 favourites this week include:
- Patrick Cantlay - Best price: +1100 at BetVictor
- Tony Finau - Best price: +1400 at Bet99
- Will Zalatoris - Best price: +1600 at BetVictor
I suspect this week many golf bettors will be putting some coin on Will Zalatoris to finally break through and capture his first PGA Tour win. At +1600 I don’t hate that play, I may even put a few dollars on him as well. He has been all over the leaderboards this year; the man has finished sixth or better in five tournaments this season, including a playoff loss to Justin Thomas at the PGA Tour Championship. I’ve been on record stating that Zalatoris will eventually break through, and he is well on his way to becoming a top-10 golfer in the world. Despite my belief in his talent, I will not be picking Zalatoris to win this week.
My pick will provide much more value. At +4500 via Sports Interaction, I will be picking Keegan Bradley to win the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Keegan has missed the cut in his last two appearances (The Genesis Scottish Open and The Open). I think these missed cuts have definitely boosted his value this week. The Detroit Golf Club will play nothing like links golf, so I don’t put much value in Keegan’s results in the UK.
Keegan has been sneaky good this year, and I have picked him once or twice as a longshot to win. He has amassed eight finishes in the top-20, and with a less than impressive field this week, I definitely think he will add to that total. Last year, Keegan finished T-14th at this event, and I think he can build on that. +4500 is a great price for Keegan in this spot, and he will be my official pick.
