Golf Picks: June 28 - The John Deere Classic
TPC Deere Run Jun 30 - Jul 3, 2022
We have been spoiled with an amazing field for the last month or so; this will not be the case this week. When Jason Day is a top-5 favourite to win, you can rest assured the field is nothing to brag about. Let's just get through the next two weeks, and then we can enjoy the final major of the season being played at one of the most recognizable courses in the world… not to mention the return of Tiger Woods.
TPC Deere Run plays a par-71 at 7289 yards. The course offers up plenty of birdie opportunities, so we can expect another shootout. There are some holes that will challenge the field, but overall the course will not be nearly as penalizing as the championship golf courses we all enjoy. I expect the leaders to hover around 20 under par.
The top 3 favourites this week include:
- Daniel Berger - Best price: +1100 at bet365
- Webb Simpson - Best price: +1400 at BetMGM
- Adam Hadwin - Best price: +1800 at BetMGM
If you love to bet tournament winners like I do, I highly suggest price shopping these lines. We see a great variation from sportsbook to sportsbook. If your guy hits, make sure you get top dollar for it.
Longshots at Great Value
Ryan Moore +11000 at bet365 - He hasn’t done anything that stands out other than 4 straight made cuts. But at a tournament like the John Deere Classic, anything is possible. I believe we will have a winner that comes out of nowhere this week, and I’ll throw a few dollars on Ryan Moore.
JT Poston +6000 at bet365 - JT either misses the cut, or he contends. He had a fabulous tournament last week at the Travelers (T-2), and I think he can build off it. This could be his week.
My Outright Winner:
This week, I am going off the board. Cam Davis is a golfer that the more casual golf fans wouldn't recognize. He is young, and does have one PGA Tour victory under his belt. Last season he beat Joaquin Niemann and Troy Merritt in a playoff to win the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Championship.
Since then, he hasn't done much. In fact, his SG stats are abysmal (see above). He caught my eye in the 4th round of the Travelers when he played with Rory. He didn't play his best to say the least. His round included 2 double bogeys, and a 4-putt on hole one. As I have stated before, a tournament like this brings a lot of golfers into the mix. If Cam gets hot he can definitely contend. On the other hand, he could also miss the cut. This pick is feast or famine, and I am betting on feast.
