MLB Picks: August 06

By Mitchell Blair

Happy Saturday everyone! After yesterday’s diamond picks which came through, let’s talk some more baseball.

I may be biased because I am a Chicago Cubs fan but is there any better place to watch a game from Wrigley Field?  Baseball heaven as I call it was looking great yesterday as the Cubs returned home to face the Miami Marlins in a game where they got the win thanks to some late Willson Contreras heroics. I’m not sure why the Cubs didn’t trade him at the deadline and now I just want to hear news of an extension, I digress!

The Cubs-Marlins series continues today. Games at Wrigley are tough when it comes to the over/under because you need to know if the wind is blowing in or out.  These two teams have a tough time getting runs so I would lean to the under especially when you consider both pitching staffs have been shutting down the opposition of late.

Yesterday’s game was a one-run affair and I wouldn’t be surprised to see another close one today.  The way these teams are hitting, I don’t see a lot of runs being scored unless the wind is blowing out

PICK: Miami/Chicago under 7.5 at -105 at Bet365

The Houston Astros aren’t slowing down.  They play Game 3 of a matchup against Cleveland.  Houston is an American League best 34-15 since June 12 and their 36-21 road record is best in the American League. The way they have dominated the Guardians this weekend, let’s take them with the runline and hope they can silence Cleveland for a third straight game.

PICK: Houston (-1.5) at +106 at Sports Interaction

One more game I will throw some money down on is the game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins. These two had a ring-a-ding-dong dandy Friday night.  I really like what Minnesota did at the deadline adding Tyler Mahle, Michael Fulmer and Jorge Lopez as they strengthen that pitching staff and hold off the Guardians and White Sox in the American League Central.

Dylan Bundy has not had the greatest season for Minnesota. In July, he had an ERA of just under 6. One would have to think that would the likes of Bichette, Guerrero, Chapman and Hernandez salivating as they will get a chance to swing away against him.  Mitch White will make his first start for Toronto since being acquired at the deadline.  White certainly didn’t dominate when he got onto the bump for the Dodgers and it will be interesting to see if Toronto just wants to get him through five before sending the bullpen in. We have seen these teams get a lot of runs in the first two games and I see that trend continuing.

PICK: Toronto/Minnesota OVER 9 at -110 at NorthStar

Enjoy the games!
