Ace Pitchup on a Tuesday: August 16

Written by Cartichoke

What's up all my fellow gamblers? Today is Tuesday. The best day to win some money. We are going to head to the diamond today. We are going to make it back-to-back baseball wins today, with last week taking the Orioles to beat Manoah and the Jays. When you think about it, I could literally just copy and paste pretty much that whole write up and use it for today because the Jays are playing the Orioles again with Manoah pitching. But I’m not about that action.

Today we have an absolute PITCHERS DUEL. I will let you look on your phone to see which game I am talking about. If you’re being a bit lazy it is between the Houston Astros and the Chicago White Sox. Justin Verlander taking on Dylan Cease.

For Verlander, he is 15-3 on the season with 134 strikeouts, 1.85 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP. He is currently the betting favourite to win the AL Cy Young as well. He has been lights out all year, but he has been even more impressive since the All-Star break posting a 3-0 record with a 1.69 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP. In his last contest against the Rangers, he left without a decision giving up 3 earned runs in 6.0 innings pitched.

Now let’s talk about the young stud Dylan Cease. He is 12-5 on the season with 174 strikeouts, 1.96 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. Very solid numbers here especially with the strikeouts. Sheesh. He also has been completely dialed in since the All-Star break. 3-1 record, 1.13 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. Just think his ERA since the ASB is lower than his WHIP on the season. That’s how good this guy has been pitching.

You see we can go on about the pitching matchup all day long here but pitching isn’t the only way to win games. The other way is batting and even though the White Sox have somewhat solid bats. I simply just cannot trust this White Sox team. I don’t know what it is. They remind me a bit about the Boston Celtics at the start of the season last year, they have the players and the talent, but they are only slightly over .500. And the Astros bats are one scary thing, with Kyle Tucker smacking the ball without those batting gloves, Yordan Alvarez hitting baseballs to Jupiter, Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve playing within the rules. They're just a scary team and my favourite to win the AL.

So I am going to have to roll with the Astros tonight. They are 20-9 in the last 29 meetings against the White Sox.

Give me the Astros (-125) on PowerPlay.

I’ll see you at the top.
