Ohtani Time in Toronto: August 26

Written by Cartichoke

Happy Friday to all my gamblers, I hope you all had a splendid week and look forward to the last weekend of August. So let’s start this weekend off with a nice Friday winner so we can head into tomorrow with some extra coin.

We have the Los Angeles Angels (52-73) taking on the Toronto Blue Jays (68-55). I kind of wish I took a trip to Toronto for this one. Friday night under the lights, Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. It doesn’t get much better than that. But I guess I’ll just be on my couch instead and watch this one.

The Angels have been playing poor baseball for most of the year, and it hasn’t really improved as of late. They have currently lost their last 6 games, and are 1-9 in their last 10 games. They got swept in 4 games by the Rays and before that losing 2 out of 3 to the Tigers. How many playoffs have rolled around without Mike Trout? I’ve lost count to be honest.

The Jays come into this game on a bit of a heater. They just swept the Red Sox in 3 games, and previously took 3 out of 4 off the Yankees in New York. They are currently 7-3 in their last 10 games and are looking at a playoff berth.

Pitching for the Angels is Reid Detmers. He has been the lone bright spot on the Angels pitching staff (other than Ohtani, of course). On the season he has a 4-4 record with 98.1 innings pitched, having 94 K’s, 3.66 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. He did get rocked in his last game against the Tigers giving up 10 hits and 4 ER in 4.1 innings, but everyone can have a bad game here and there.

For the Blue Jays, pitching tonight is Mitch White. The right-hander who the Jays got at the deadline from the Los Angeles Dodgers. On the season White has a 1-3 record thru 69.1 innings, striking out 57 batters, with a 3.64 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP.

I am going to be betting the total in this game, I am usually a moneyline kind of bettor, but I can’t pass up this total. I hereby state that this Friday night, the last Friday of August, I will be taking the under.

Angels throwing out their best pitcher, they have a total of 8 runs in their last 5 games. I love the under here.

The under is 9-2 in Blue Jays last 11 home games.
