MLB Picks: July 01

By Rally Kapz

To those of you reading this from the great white north, Happy Canada Day!  And, of course, an early Happy 4th of July to our American friends!  Lots of great action on MLB diamonds today, so let’s take a look at a few compelling matchups.

First off, let’s check in on the New York Yankees.  The Yankees swept the struggling Oakland A’s at home earlier in the week, before travelling down to Houston to lose a make-up game with the Astros last night…and then flying to Cleveland for a series starting today.  A grueling travel schedule for sure.  I might be a little concerned about a jetlagged team but the Yankees have stud starter Gerrit Cole going today.  The best part about Cole is that he’s consistently good, with a sub-3 ERA and WHIP at 1.01.  Given that the Yankees average about 5 runs per game, the runline offers the best value on this game today.

Pick:  New York Yankees -1.5 -120 (bet99) at Cleveland Guardians

Next, let’s look at the team that beat the Yankees last night – the Houston Astros.  Love ‘em or hate ‘em, the top of the Astros lineup still strikes fear in opposing pitchers.  The pitching ain’t too shabby either.  Starting for the Astros today is Cristian Javier.  You may recall that in his last outing, he went seven strong innings, striking out thirteen batters in what ended up being a combined no-hitter against the NY Yankees.  I think he’ll be good again today.

Pick:  Houston Astros -1.5 +135 (bet365) vs. Los Angeles Angels

Is it just me, or do the St. Louis Cardinals always have a good team?  Baseball fans in St. Louis are spoiled.  They’re in the mix again this year, currently occupying the last wildcard spot in the NL.  Today, the Cardinals are in Philadelphia to take on the Phillies.  The Cardinals have a decisive advantage on the mound with Miles Mikolas taking on Bailey Falter, who is making just his fifth MLB start.  With an injured Bryce Harper missing from the lineup, the Phillies offense is much less potent and I think this sets up well for a visitors win tonight.  I’ve got the Cardinals on the moneyline.

Pick:  St. Louis Cardinals ML -140 (Caesars) at Philadelphia Phillies

Enjoy a great holiday weekend!
