MLB Picks: July 06

By Rally Kapz

So, yours truly, had a rough Monday with my picks, so let’s get things back on track today.  Mid-week afternoon baseball just makes me happy, so today doesn’t disappoint as four of today’s tilts are matinee affairs. One such game goes off in Milwaukee at American Family Field. By the way, what a great name for a ballpark. In today’s era of corporate naming rights for stadiums, it’s refreshing to have a name like this (second only to Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park in my opinion…but I digress). The hometown Brewers host the Cubs this afternoon and their ace, Corbin Burnes, gets the start.  Now Burnes will need no introduction to readers here but let’s do a quick review of his numbers – WL record of 7-4; 2.36 ERA; 0.92 WHIP, 124 strikeouts. Stats like this will keep him on the radar for another potential Cy Young award. The Cubs counter with Adrian Sampson, who will need his best stuff to keep this one close. He’ll be in tough against a Brewers squad that likes to mash. Milwaukee ranks 4th in team HRs, with Rowdy Tellez and Willy Adames leading the way. Expect some “slide” action from Bernie Brewer this afternoon. I’m taking the Brewers on the runline.

Pick:  Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 -110 (PowerPlay) vs. Chicago Cubs

Next up, is a potential pitchers’ duel between Max Fried of the Atlanta Braves and Miles Mikolas and the St. Louis Cardinals. Both starters have sub-3 ERAs and can go fairly deep into games on a regular basis. Fried has been an absolute beast for the Braves, already delivering 12 quality starts in his 16 outings so far this year. He’s been stellar in his last four, with a 4-0 record and 1.94 ERA. Both teams have top 10 bullpens by ERA, so runs may be at a premium today. I like the under in this one.

Pick:  Atlanta Braves vs. St. Louis Cardinals U8.5 runs -109 (Sports Interaction)
