MLB Picks: July 09

By Mitchell Blair

Buy me some peanuts and crackerjack, but after yesterday maybe buy it with cash and not debit.  What a mess that was.  Speaking of a mess, my picks have been hit-and-miss lately.  Looking at the games today, I think there are a lot more hits than misses.

Two NL West teams that have not been playing well are battling one another tonight with the Giants and Padres going at it in San Diego.  The moneyline interests me on this one as both teams are not playing well.  San Francisco is 1-6 in its last seven on the road, but for some reason I am ignoring that as I like San Fran here as I think they are the better of the two good teams which are not very good at the moment.  That and San Diego have lost their last four Saturday games.  Let’s go with the Giants to take this one in a low scoring affair.

PICK: San Francisco at -110 at Coolbet

It should be a great game in Seattle as the Mariners and Blue Jays continue a four-game series that will take them into the all-star break. Toronto is leaking some serious oil as they approach the break. At this point, they need to see if Dave Stieb or Ricky Romero can toss them an inning or two.  Alex Manoah comes back to the hill after a subpar outing in Oakland with former Jay Robbie Ray facing him. Ray is starting to resemble the pitcher he was when he won the Cy Young last year. In his last four starts which have all been Seattle victories, Ray has struck out 36 while allowing just 12 hits.  Seattle has won six straight and are 14-3 in their last 17.  Toronto, meanwhile, have lost seven of their last eight and have scored more than three just once.  Yes, Manoah goes for Toronto, but how can you not like the Mariners?

PICK: Seattle at +101 at Sports Interaction

One other game I have my eye on is the Cleveland-Kansas City matchup.  This game just screams over to me.  The Guardians put the ball in play a lot as they have the highest contact rate in the majors at almost 80 percent, but they are also struggling having lost 13 of their last 17.  Whether or not the Royals can add to Cleveland’s misfortunes is something I can’t answer, but I do believe these teams can combine to score some runs to take the over.

PICK: Over 9 at -105 on Coolbet

Have a great Saturday and enjoy the games!
