MLB Picks: July 11

By Mitchell Blair

Happy Monday all! Here’s to hoping it was a weekend of profitable bets for you that can continue on.

The last week of the first half of the season begins today with 10 games on the go. Let’s focus on the National League East starting with what should be a pretty good game in Atlanta as the Braves and Mets collide. Max Scherzer will make his second start for the NL East leaders and if it is anything like his first, it will be a tough night for the Atlanta hitters.

Scherzer went six scoreless innings allowing just two hits while striking out 11. That is vintage Scherzer as he registered zero walks. As good a pitcher as Scherzer is though, he has had some struggles against Atlanta with a career record of 10-9 and an ERA of just under 4. If New York gets the lead, they are almost a lock this year as they are 42-10 when scoring first.

Atlanta is 29-8 in their last 37 and they are on the heels of the Mets as they go in just 1.5 games back in a battle for first place that should go right to Game 162. This game just screams under to me, and that is where I am going even though that line sits at anywhere between 6 and 7 runs depending on what book you are playing.

PICK: Under 7 at -108 on Sports Interaction

The Pirates are in Miami to face the Marlins. Miami is favoured to win this game and for good reason. Pittsburgh is a team that dreads facing left-handed pitching. Pittsburgh is 28-65 in their last 93 games vs. a left-handed starter. They are also 46-113 in their last 159 road games and 1-6 in their last seven against NL East teams. Do I need to go any further? Go with the Marlins on the runline.

PICK: Miami (-1.5) at +135 on Bet99

One last game has Philadelphia in St. Louis to finish off a four-game set. Both Aaron Nola of the Phillies and Miles Mikolas have had great seasons with numbers that would look a lot better if they could get some offensive support. Mikolas has had seven starts this year where he has had zero run support, while Nola is 5-6 on the season but hasn't been left out to dry by his teammates. Because of that I will take the Phillies, who are the slight road favourite to win in what should be another low scoring game. They just seem to have been a better ballclub over the past couple of weeks

PICK:  Philadelphia at –115 on Coolbet
