MLB Picks: July 15

By Rally Kapz

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, the game of baseball can leave us scratching our heads, to which we invariably respond with “well, that’s baseball”. Such was the case again last night, as the Kansas City Royals, missing 10 regular players (due to Canadian Covid protocols), beat the Blue Jays 3-1 in Toronto. The Jays, with a revamped batting order (Vladdy Jr. batting second and Bichette dropped down to clean-up) were unable to muster any sort of offensive output. I had the Jays on the -1.5 runline, so we’ll take the loss and move on. So, what about today? Well, back on the horse as they say! The Jays start Alek Manoah today, up against Zack Greinke for the Royals. Advantage Blue Jays. The Royals will once again be fielding a partly triple-A lineup, so advantage Jays on that front as well.  The logic is sound, so stick with it. Jays on the runline.

Pick:  Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 -160 (Bet99) vs. Kansas City Royals

Other games worth betting today:

The bats of the Philadelphia Phillies have gone quiet lately, with the team averaging just two runs per game in their past six outings. It won’t get any easier for them today, as they face ace Sandy Alcantara and the Miami Marlins. Alcantara has been scary good for Miami, with a 1.73 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. The Marlins are hovering just under .500, with a +3 run differential, so pretty much flat. I think Alcantara will be the difference in this game and I think the runline offers us the best value today. Put me down for the Marlins -1.5.

Pick:  Miami Marlins -1.5 +135 (betway) vs. Philadelphia Phillies

We’ve got an afternoon game today at Wrigley, between the Mets and the Cubs. The pitching matchup has the Mets’ Taijuan Walker up against the Cubs’ Marcus Stroman. I think this matchup favours the Mets. The Mets are a fantastic road team and the Cubs have been woeful at home. New York can score in bunches and the Cubs have lost their last seven games. I’m going to ride the momentum on this one; I like the Mets on the road.

Pick: New York Mets ML -133 (BetRivers) at Chicago Cubs
