MLB Picks: July 22

By Rally Kapz

Well, we made it!  I mean is there a harder week in the sports calendar to get through?  No hockey, no football, no basketball, and a thankfully short hiatus for some all-star festivities in baseball.  But we’re back and ready for some action now!

Let’s start in Milwaukee, where the NL Central leading Brewers will host the Colorado Rockies.  The Brew Crew went into the All-Star break having lost three in a row and seven of their last ten.  So, the break came at the right time for them and now they get to send their ace Corbin Burnes to the mound to start the second half.  If you haven’t noticed, Burnes is putting together another beast of season and he continues to heat up, posting a 0.86 WHIP and 1.59 ERA in his last seven starts.  While Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins may still be the odds-on favourite to claim the NL Cy Young at this point, Burnes may yet have to clear some space on the mantle if he continues at this pace.  This Rockies team he faces today just isn’t the same team away from the friendly confines of Coors Field.  Antonio Senzatela gets the start for the Rockies, and he’s struggled in recent outings.  We’ve faded him with some success in the past and will do so again today.  Plus, the Brewers enter the second half of the season in a dog fight with the Cardinals for the division crown, so the motivation is there.  I’m taking the Brewers on the runline today.

Pick:  Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 -115 (bet365) vs. Colorado Rockies

Other games worth betting today:

Okay, so the LA Angels have lost 40 of their last 55 games.  Not good.  They started the season with such promise but have since fired manager Joe Maddon and enter the second half of the season all but out of the race, now sitting 10.5 games out of a wildcard spot.  For a team with Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, how could expectations not have been higher?  However, Ohtani is such a unique and generational talent that he gives the team a chance to win each and every time he gets the ball.  Tonight, he gets the start on the road against a very good Braves team.  Not an easy task but as I said, with this MVP/Cy Young candidate, they always have a good chance.  At this price, I like the Angels here.

Pick:  LA Angels +135 (bet365) at Atlanta Braves
