MLB Picks: July 23

By Mitchell Blair

The 2nd half of the baseball season has arrived.  I wish I could say I ended the first half of the season like the Seattle Mariners and took home a “W” in my last 15 wagers, but I did not.  Let’s try and start the second half of the campaign off with 3 “W”s today and get things started off on the right foot.

Who is one team that ended the first half in disastrous fashion and have started the second half in the same way?  If you answered the Boston Red Sox, you move on to double jeopardy.  In their last three games, they have been beaten by a combined total of 55-8 after Toronto’s comfortable 23-run win Friday.

The Blue Jays send Alex Manoah to the mound today and one must think  the Red Sox are in for another beatdown with baseball’s newest star after the All-Star Game doing his thing.

Put some juice on Toronto. You can take them straight up and feel pretty confident about that and you can probably take them on the runline as well. In fact, just to cash in on the runline because there is a better payoff, I will do that.

PICK: Toronto -1.5 (+130)  at Bet365

Did the all-star break come at the wrong time for the surging Baltimore Orioles?

One thing you might not know about Baltimore is they have had a lot of close games this year. In fact, they lead MLB for  most games decided by two or fewer runs this season with 54. When you play this team, chances are it is going to be a close game. With that being said, I like Baltimore to cover on the runline

PICK: Baltimore +1.5 (+115) at Bet99

One other game I like has Milwaukee home to Colorado, Brandon Woodruff starts for the Brewers and he hasn’t had a lot of success against the Rockies going 0-3 with an ERA of over 9.  Dig into those numbers though and you will see all three starts were in the thin air of Coors Field. Woodruff should have a lot more success at home against Colorado. While the Rockies led MLB at the all-star break in batting average at .262, they also had the third-highest ERA at 4.88. I’ll go with Milwaukee here in what is an almost gimme.

PICK: Milwaukee ML (-270) at Coolbet

Enjoy the games!
