MLB Picks: The Battle of New York, July 26

Written by Cartichoke

Happy Tuesday everybody, the best day to win money during the week. I say that even though I think my last two betting write ups that I put out on a Tuesday have lost. But I am not going to lose three straight here. Dub time.

I am going to tackle a beast to try and get this win. The New York Yankees (66-31) are taking on the New York Mets (59-37). Just two absolute juggernauts going at it tonight, that actually are very very close to one another. Fans for both teams will be cheering on their teams and this series could get a bit rowdy, and I am here for all of it.

Pitching Game 1 for the Yankees is Jordan Montgomery (3-2, 3.24 ERA, 1.05 WHIP). He has been quite solid half way through the year. His record clearly isn't the most flattering record out there, but the low ERA and low WHIP are something positive going for Jordan. But for some reason the Yankees can't get it done when he is on the mound. Despite having a 1.17 WHIP and 3.50 ERA in his last three starts, though he wasn’t tagged with the losses, the Yankees went 0-3.

For the Mets, they are putting out Taijuan Walker (7-2, 2.55 ERA, 1.09 WHIP). Two pitchers that kind of have similar numbers, probably lower down in their rotation as well. In Walker’s last three starts he is 1-0 with a 1.89 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP. Just fantastic numbers, and something to consider how well he has been pitching as of late.

As for the bats, in the last 10 games the Yankees have been beating up on the baseball with a team batting average of .258, while the Mets have a .225 batting average.

This is a very tough game to call, but I am not scared of any game… I DON’T CARE. I AM NOT SCARED OF ANYONE, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, DJ LeMahieu, Matt Carpenter, Josh Donaldson. BRING IT.

Give me the goddamn New York Mets tonight, screw it.

I gotta roll with how well Walker is pitching as of late and how well the bullpen has been for the Mets as well (1.66 ERA last 10 games, NYY 3.98 ERA last 10).

The Mets are 23-7 in Game 1s, and 14-4 in Game 1s following a win.
