MLB Picks: July 29

By Mitchell Blair

The August long weekend is here.  Whether you’re headed to the beach, the cabin or just enjoying it at home, the bottom line is to enjoy it and why not do that by watching some baseball with the smell of some dogs on the bbq and a cold beverage nearby?  Why not try and make some money tonight as well?  Here are three games I’ll be betting on.

The Blue Jays and Tigers continue their four-game series at the soon to be renovated Rogers Centre.  This should be easy money for Toronto. Why is that you might ask? Well, let’s just go with this.  Detroit is 7-15 against the Al East this year. No team in baseball has won fewer road games than the Tigers (15), Toronto has won five of the last six against Detroit, and they lead the majors in batting average. Oh yeah, Alex Manoah goes in search of his 12th win of the year. Put big money down on Toronto to lay a solid beating on the Tigers. Take the Jays with the runline

PICK: Toronto -1.5 (-165) at Bet99

An interleague battle between the Twins and Padres in San Diego intrigues me as I think there is some good value on Minnesota. San Diego comes in having won four of their last 11 and they return home after losing two of three to the putrid Tigers. San Diego starter Blake Snell has not had success against Minnesota as in five meetings, he has an ERA of over 7. This game screams Minnesota to me.

PICK: Minnesota ML (+102) at Coolbet

Finally, let’s go to Atlanta where the Braves are taking on the Diamondbacks. Madison Bumgarner starts for the DBacks and he has had a lot of success over the years against Atlanta. Bumgarner will be making his 17th career start against the Braves. In the past 12, he is 8-1 with an ERA of 2.21. Kyle Wright goes for the Braves and he is no pushover either as he comes in leading the National League in wins as he has won his last five starts. This should be a great game where runs may be tough to find.  Let’s take the under here despite the fact Atlanta has hit the over in the last four games where a lefthander has opposed them.  I am guessing those lefties aren’t in the same class as Bumgarner.

PICK: Arizona/Atlanta under 9 (–119) at Sports Interaction

Enjoy the games!
