MLB Picks: June 01

Written by Cartichoke

Happy June to you all, if you had a bad betting month in May put it behind you okay? New month, so it is a new slate.

I for one am starting off June with a winner. Yes, that may seem a bit cocky and it may blow up right in my face, but sometimes in betting you have to be confident and with a new month today, you gotta start with a swagger.

We head to the diamond, San Francisco Giants (27-21) taking on the Philadelphia Phillies (21-29). For today’s game we have two very strong pitchers. Carlos Rodón and Aaron Nola Let's take a look at how the two pitchers have been this year.

For Rodón, he has a 4-4 record, 3.60 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and is ninth in the MLB in strikeouts with 64. He started off the year as one of the league's best pitchers, going 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP in the month of April. He followed that up with a disappointing month of May, going 1-4 with a 5.67 ERA and 1.59 WHIP.

Maybe he is going to use the same logic that I used, that it is a new month and to put everything that happened behind you and leave it in May.

On the Phillies side Nola posts a 2-4 record, but he is just not getting the run support from his team’s bats. He has a 3.56 ERA and a WHIP of 0.94. Very impressive numbers.

In his last outing against the World Series Champion Braves, he threw 8.1 innings, giving up only 5 hits, and 1 earned run, while striking out a season high 10 batters. And the games prior to the one against the Braves, he struckout 9 against the Dodgers, and then 8 against the Dodgers as well. He has been cooking lately.

So I believe this game is a pitchers duel, so I will gladly take the under in this game.

I’ll head to bet365 and take u8 at -109.

For the batting side of the baseball, the Phillies are pretty average considering who they have in their lineup.

They have a team batting average of .244 (11th), OBP of .310 (17th).

So I trust Rodón to shut down the Phillies, and I certainly trust Aaron Nola to keep up the hot hand and deal with the Giants.

Give me under 8 runs (-109) at bet365.
