MLB Picks: June 03

Written by Cartichoke

Good Friday everybody, my last time writing an MLB pick I guaranteed a winner; it was a loser. Completely blew up in my face as I was watching. I’m not going to let it keep me down.

Head up, chest out. Stay positive.

In today’s bet we are going for the afternoon game, Friday afternoon, you probably already know where this game is being played. You guessed it, the Chicago Cubs hosting the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cubs come into this game with a 22-29 record, while the Cardinals record is basically a flipped version of that at 29-22.

Pitching for the Cardinals is Miles Mikolas, 3-3 on the season with 47 strikeouts with a very respectable 2.67 ERA and a WHIP of 1.05. Very solid numbers for Miles. His last outing didn't go so well though, against the Brewers he threw 5.2 innings, giving up 9 hits and 6 earned runs. That was by far his worst start of the season, to put that into perspective, in the month of April he only conceded 5 total earned runs. So I trust a bounce back game for the Cardinals pitcher.

On the Cubbies side, former Blue Jay ace Marcus Stroman is headed to the mound, he posts a 2-4 record, 3.95 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 38 Ks. Not the best numbers, that ERA could be down a bit, but he has a very solid WHIP and the record does not speak for itself when on a rebuilding Cubs team.

I am going to have to go with the St. Louis Cardinals today, I am taking them at -105 at Bet99.

First of all they have been on a complete tear as of late, before losing last night in Game 1 vs the Cubs. They won 5 of their last 6 games, and Paul Goldschmidt has been causing major havoc in the league. In the month of May, Goldschmidt had the following stats: .404 AVG, .471 OBP, 1.288 OPS, 10 HR, 33 RBI and 13 doubles. Just absolute video game numbers.

St. Louis is averaging 4.74 runs per game. Their .252 AVG (6th in MLB). OBP of .321 (6th) while they have a SLG of .396 is 14th in the MLB. I don't trust the Cubs roster, but I trust this Cardinals team to take back the game last night.

If you do bet on the Cardinals as well, grab them at the best number, and that's at -105 on Bet99.

Let’s start the weekend off right… with a WINNER. See you at the top.
