MLB Picks: June 08

by Cartichoke

Big Matchup Between Two NL Teams

I know, I know. I went 2-0 in my two MLB picks yesterday, I know. You don’t have to say it alright. I was going to take the humble approach here and play it cool, but because it was brought to my attention, yes. I did go 2-0. San Diego Padres ML -123, and the u8 runs in the game. The Padres won an easy one 7-0. As for the total, it got a little bit sweaty, but the bullpens pitched well, and we held down the fort. So I am feeling like a million bucks at the moment, and I am going to keep it running into today.

We have a great, great matchup tonight in the National League. The Arizona Diamondbacks (26-31) taking on the Cincinnati Reds (20-35). You know, as a bettor it is always fun to bet on the fun teams or the fun games. But that gets a bit tiresome, so I like to change things up a bit, and that is what I am doing tonight. Betting on probably the least viewed game in North America.

Pitching for tonight’s game, for the DBacks they are putting Merrill Kelly on the mound tonight. Merrill has been average this season. He really started strong, but has been a bit of a letdown ever since. Below is a table or Merrill Kelly stats by month this year.

April 2-1 record 1.27 ERA 1.02 WHIP
May 1-2 record 6.31 ERA 1.71 WHIP
June (so far) 1-0 record 3.60 ERA 1.80 WHIP

On the Reds side, Mike Minor is getting the start today. It will be his second appearance this season. On June 3rd he pitched 4 innings, giving up 6 hits and 5 earned runs, while three of those runs were home runs. Not the start to the season he was looking to have. But looking at his 2021 stats, he ended the year off decent. Post All-Star break he 2-4, with 46 strikeouts, 3.78 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP.

This is a really tough spot but I think I gotta go red here. I’m taking the Cincinnati Reds tonight, with both pitching looking a bit iffy, you have to look at the offensive side of the game, and the Reds bats have been the better of the two as of late. In their last 6 games they have a total of 46 runs (7.66 rpg). The DBacks, in their last 4 games have scored 9 total runs (2.25 rpg). So I am going to trust the Reds bats tonight, they’re the home team as well which is solid. Brandon Drury has been swinging that bat like a madman lately, and Votto is coming around.

Give me the Cincinnati Reds ML -115 at Sports Interaction.

See you at the top.
