MLB Picks: June 12

By Mitchell Blair

It's another full day of baseball action. I won’t even bother talking about the early game between Oakland and Cleveland because many of you might not even be up. Who’s kidding who? I might not be up by the time the first pitch is thrown, but there are some interesting games today that I will put some money down on.

The Jays finish off a series in Detroit with Ross Stripling on the mound. It's not surprising to see Toronto favoured, but Stripling is a guy that scares me. He pitched well last time out against Kansas City, but Stripling has not had a “quality start” this year. Meanwhile, the Tigers throw their best arm against Toronto as Tarik Skubal takes the bump. Skubal has been a positive for Detroit this year going 5-2 with an ERA of 2.06 which is good for 6th in the majors.

Skubal could stall the Toronto offence and because of that, I like the underdog Tigers here. If they can get to Stripling early, the Jays bats may not be able to pound their way back into this one.

PICK: Detroit at +135 at Sports Interaction

The best pitching matchup of the day should be in San Francisco as Carlos Rodon and the Giants finish off a three-game set against Julio Urias and the Dodgers in an NL West clash.  This is a game where a lot of runs likely won’t be scored. To pick a winner in this one will be tough, but I think with these two guys on the mound, it shouldn’t be a tough decision to take the under.

PICK: Under 8 at -105 at bet365

For my third and final pick, let’s go to Houston. I think the easiest money in the afternoon could be there with Justin Verlander on the hill. Verlander isn’t aging is he? The performance would indicate he is not.  All the numbers point to Houston. They are 14-5 in their last 19 home games and 25-11 in their last 36. As an underdog, the Marlins don’t do too well winning just a third of their last 53 interleague games and they have a tough time on Sundays as well going just 1-5 in their last 6. I’m going hard on the Verlander train.

PICK: Houston at -225 at Sports Interaction

Enjoy your Sunday!
