MLB Picks: June 14

By Rally Kapz

After a slow start to the season, the Cleveland Guardians are on a roll!  The Guardians have taken full advantage of their weaker schedule of late, winning 10 of their last 13 games, beating up on American League bottom-dwellers, including the Royals, Orioles, Rangers and A’s.  Don’t look now but they’re back above .500 and now sit just half a game outside of a wildcard position.

Now, they enter the thin-air confines of Coors Field to take on the Rockies. Colorado currently sits last in the NL West, having surrendered the second most runs (338) across MLB. Both teams rank in the bottom third of the league in HRs, so the long ball is likely less of a threat than you would normally expect from a game in Denver. However, CLE’s Jose Ramirez, with 16 HRs, is licking his chops and may have something to say about that!

The big advantage here is on the mound. 2020 Cy Young winner Shane Bieber starts for CLE. Last week he became the 2nd fastest in history to post 700 career strikeouts (only behind Yu Darvish). Bieber enters the game with an ERA of 2.91, a WHIP of 1.12 and has given up just 4 HRs this season.  And strikeouts you ask? Yup, averaging more than 1 per inning. Colorado counters with Antonio Senzatela. While Senzatela has kept the ball in the yard, having given up just 3 HRs, it’s safe to say opposing batters have been on to him, batting .383. His WHIP is a bloated 1.85. Cleveland batters have the fewest strikeouts in the league (374 vs next best at 439), so expect a lot of balls in play!

This match-up sets up well for the Guardians.  Pick: Guardians ML -155 (BetMGM)

Other games worth betting tonight:

Blue Jays/Orioles over 9.5 -104 (BetRivers): I’m a big fan of the work of Jays' Pitching Coach Pete Walker but Yusei Kikuchi remains a project and has tended to struggle early in games. He gets the start tonight against Jordan Lyles for the Orioles. We could be into the bullpens early tonight – on both sides. I see some runs being scored. Lots of ‘em. I like the over.
