MLB Picks: June 17

By Mitchell Blair

Father’s Day weekend is upon us. Let’s all take some time out to remember throwing the ball around with Dad or having him coach us or taking us to a game. I know many of my favourite baseball memories and sports memories in general revolve around Dad and I’m thinking I’m not the only one who can say that.

Let’s start with what should be easy money. The Atlanta Braves, winners of 14 straight, are in Chicago to play the Cubs who come in having lost 10 in a row. Nothing is a gimme in sports, but this has to be as close to one as possible right? Yes, anything can happen but how can you not like the Braves. Taking them straight up on the moneyline is OK, but if you want to pocket a little more coin let’s go with them on the runline at -1.5. I would take the over as well, but you never know what type of weather you will get at Wrigley Field and whether the wind is blowing in or out which can change a game and managerial strategies in a hurry.

PICK: Atlanta at ( -1.5) at -105 on Bet99

There is no doubt the marquee matchup in MLB this weekend comes from Rogers Center as the Blue Jays entertain the New York Yankees. We’re not at the halfway point of the season, but there is no doubt the Yankees are baseball’s best team this year while Toronto seemed to have gotten their game back together until stumbling badly against Baltimore on Thursday. Ross Stripling starts the opener and to say he has been a pleasant surprise is an understatement. In his last three starts, Stripling is 3-0 having pitched 13 2/3 innings with just five hits and no runs allowed. As good as he has been, I just can’t see him shutting down that powerful New York lineup that will take him back to earth a little. This could be a high-scoring affair.

PICK: New York Yankees at -110 on Sports Interaction

An American League East battle will have Seattle home to the Angels. The Mariners should be better than their record indicates, but their inability to rack up wins is the fact their offence is just non-existent as they are in the bottom third of many categories including runs and RBI’s. Take the Angels to win this one in what should be a low-scoring affair.

PICK: Los Angeles at +110 on Bet99
