MLB Picks: June 22
With a big 8th inning, the Blue Jays bats delivered as predicted yesterday. KevIn Gausman was effective on the mound, pitching 6 innings and recording 7 strikeouts and 2 earned runs. Yet, the Blue Jays were unable to close out the game in extras losing 7-6.
All in all, we went 0 for 3 yesterday with the Yankees unable to close out the game in the top of the 9th despite the comeback effort. Our +185 bet with Jose Abreau not recording a hit was broken in the 8th inning as he singled to center field. And of course, the Blue Jays were unable to win in extra innings following Romano’s blunder on the mound. While losing money is never fun, hopefully today is better than yesterday.
Despite the Jays cashing in a run in both the 10th and 11th innings, the White Sox followed in the bottom half of the innings and managed to close it out in the 12th. With Josh Harrison’s single to center, Jose Abreau trotted home as the White Sox and their fans celebrated a walk-off victory on a beautiful 30+ degree night.
This week, we’re going with the Blue Jays once again as Ross Stripling takes the mound. Stripling has been quite effective as of late, only giving up 2 runs in his last three starts. The Jays bats continue to get hotter with the weather, and in June alone, the Jays have recorded 35 HR and 117 runs after only 19 games. There are still 9 games left in the month of June, and its clear the summer months have treated the Blue Jays quite well offensively.
While it may be a tad early to look at standings, the AL East is by far the leagues toughest division. With three wildcards this year, it is very possible that the Jays, Red Sox, and Rays can all claim a wildcard spot, with four playoff spots represented by AL East teams. With 94 games left to play and a long season ahead, the Red Sox and Rays continue to creep up the standings to lock up the second spot in the AL East.
NYY -1.5 (+125) at theScoreBet: Despite the Yankees valiant comeback effort in the 9th, I’ll be sticking with them as they are 12-4 after a loss and 10-6 against the spread (run line) after a loss. With +125 odds at -1.5, I’ll be going with the Yankees minus the runs against AL East rival Rays.
