MLB Picks: June 26

By Rally Kapz

Let’s start today by going to the Florida Gulf Coast.  This afternoon the Tampa Bay Rays host the Pittsburgh Pirates in the finale of a 3-game set.  The Rays are coming off walk off wins in each of the first two games of the series and I expect them to keep rolling today.  Tampa Bay plays really well at the Trop, coming into this one with a 24-15 home record.  On the mound for the Rays is ace starter Shane McClanahan.  The lefty comes into the game with a 7-3 record, a 1.81 ERA, a 0.85 WHIP, and with 113 strikeouts.  McClanahan’s last two starts were against the NY Yankees, in which he struck out 15 batters combined, going six innings and giving up just one earned run in each game.  That’s pretty impressive, and the Pirates team he faces today are a far cry from the Yankees.  Pittsburgh struggles on the road, with a record of 12-22 to be exact.  They also struggle offensively in general, ranking 3rd last in both team batting average and OPS across MLB.  They also have a lot of “swing and miss” throughout their lineup, which should make the task of going up against the Rays’ ace somewhat daunting.  I like the Rays here and I think the best value is on the runline.  Take the Rays -1.5.

Pick:  Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 (+110) at PointsBet

Other games worth betting today:

Next up, the series between the Yankees and Astros has been fun to watch.  To catch you up, these two teams started their series on Thursday, with the Pinstripes scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the ‘Stros 7-6, for their 15th straight home win.  On Friday, the Astros’ Justin Verlander pitched a gem in a 3-1 victory, snapping the Yankees streak (a pick I predicted here BTW).  To top that off, the Astros pitching staff combined to “no-hit” the Yankees yesterday.  What a series so far!  Today, Nestor Cortes goes for the Yankees.  He’s been solid this year, and I just can’t see the Yankees’ bats being silenced again.  I’ll take the Yankees on the moneyline.

Pick:  New York Yankees ML -149 at ProLine+
