MLB Picks: June 27

By Rally Kapz

The Toronto Blue Jays will be glad to return home, after dropping the two latest series on the road in Chicago and Milwaukee. The Jays are 3-7 in their last ten games and will hope to right the ship tonight in front of the Rogers Centre faithful. It will be an AL East battle, as the Boston Red Sox roll into town. The BoSox have been one of the hottest teams in baseball, coming into this series on a seven-game winning streak and having won eight of their last ten. The Red Sox have been road warriors this year, sporting one of the league’s best records away from Fenway this year, at 22-15. What’s clear is that the Red Sox can flat-out rake.  Rafael Devers, JD Martinez and Xander Bogaerts all rank in the top 20 for OPS in MLB. Neither of these teams have fared well against their AL East rivals, with the Blue Jays at 12-14 and the Red Sox at 7-14. I can’t wait to watch this one.

Aside from Alek Manoah, the Jays’ pitching has been shaky of late, so they’ll need a better start from Kevin Gausman tonight. Gausman began the year looking like a potential Cy Young candidate but has been much more inconsistent and hittable of late. His WHIP of 1.68 in his last seven outings, indicate just how well opposing batters have been locked in on Gausman’s stuff. The Jays will need Gausman to look like his early-season self to be competitive against this potent Red Sox lineup. Starting tonight for Boston is Connor Seabold. Not much to read on the book of Seabold, as tonight he makes just his second MLB start and first of this season. If Gausman had his good stuff going, I’d lean Toronto here but that’s not the case.

I expect we’ll see some explosive offense tonight as both teams like to swing the bats and post formidable lineups. The Jays rank third in OPS and the Red Sox rank fifth, so expect some aggressive swings and ball in play tonight. Give me the Red Sox on the moneyline and I’ll take the over.

Pick:  Boston Red Sox +165 (bet365) at Toronto Blue Jays

Pick:  Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox over 9.5 runs +100 (PowerPlay)
