MLB Pick: May 16

by Stefan Luciani

Okay so, the Blue Jays disappointed us…again. Should we be surprised based on their luck right now? No. Does it make it hurt any less? Also no. But happy Monday, it’s time to turn the page on a brand new week and with it, find more opportunities to make back some guapo.

We have a decent slate of games today around the show, but I’ve got to be honest with you, I don’t love a lot of the lines available. Sometimes, that’s just the way it goes. That doesn’t mean there aren’t some hidden gems beneath all the mud, and lucky for you, I may have found one.

The Los Angeles Angels are taking on a mediocre Texas Rangers team later this evening in Arlington, and for the first time in recent memory, the Angels are actually pretty damn good. They come in as favourites on the ML sitting at -135 (BetMGM), but I’ve got my eyes on the spread which as it stands at the moment sits at -1.5 @ +122 (FanDuel). Now to me, that’s kind of a no-brainer.

This is an Angels offense that boasts Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, both of whom are hitting quite well at the moment. Not only that, but the Rangers are sending Jon Gray

(0-1, 5.51 ERA) to the bump, who has actually surrendered long balls to both sluggers. The Angels are countering Noah Syndergaard (3-1, 2.45 ERA) who, well, is Noah Syndergaard.

There really isn’t much more you need to know on that front. Sorry I’m not rhyming off all these silly tidbits this time, I genuinely believe this is a face value bet. Sometimes, they just look good, and you’ve got to run with it. Pick: Angels -1.5 @ +125 (BetMGM).

Other Notable Games:

Blue Jays -1.5 @ +130 (Betway) vs Mariners: Now I know you’re thinking umm, are you good? Did you not learn your lesson yesterday? Well obviously, I did not, or I wouldn’t be taking this bet. Maybe I’m naive, but Yusei Kikuchi has looked solid in his last couple outings and he seems to be getting more comfortable using the fastball as his primary. As for the offence, it truly is a matter of time before they explode. A lineup like this can only stay quiet for so long. Today may be the day back at the Rogers Centre in front of the home fans.

Astros ML @ +112 (BetRegal) vs Red Sox: Now, as far as I can see, I’m not missing anything. But the Houston Astros are currently coming in as underdogs against the Boston Red Sox, and the Sox, well, they’re just not very good at all. The ‘Stros offence is ready to take another step now having Jeremy Pena and Jose Altuve back contributing again. This one is almost too good to be true…BOOK IT. pushing tonight to get the account closer to the green.
