MLB Picks: May 31

By Mitchell Blair

Memorial Day has come and gone in the US. Like it is with American Thanksgiving in the NHL, you can now take a look at what you have and whether or not you are a good club with playoff aspirations or not.

One team that shouldn’t have to worry about making the playoffs are the New York Yankees.  At 33-15, they are comfortably sitting in first in the American League East and have shown that they should once again be considered a contender. They welcome the Los Angeles Angels to Yankee Stadium for the start of a three-game set and I am hammering my money down on both the home team and the over.

Noah Syndergaard starts for LA. Syndergaard, who has a road ERA of almost six this season, has seen his best days come and go, so I am thinking Aaron Judge and company will have a field day against this pitching staff. The Angels bullpen was beaten around by Toronto over the weekend as the Jays took four straight and I don’t see things improving on the road in this series. Add that to the fact New York is 19-7 in their first game after an off day while Los Angeles has had recent problems after an off-day going 2-7. Flying across the country doesn’t help.

PICK: Yankees at -135 at Bet99

Other notable games:

Milwaukee at Chicago:  Milwaukee at -130 at bet365

The Cubs let a game they should have won get away from them on Sunday against the White Sox as they lost in 12. They then had to play a doubleheader against the Brewers on Monday meaning they will need a solid seven innings from Justin Steele to reduce getting into that battered bullpen. I don’t see that happening. I would make a good investment in Milwaukee on the moneyline.

Kansas City at Cleveland:  Cleveland at -115 at Sports Interaction

This would be a lot more enticing if it were the Chiefs visiting the Browns but it's not. The Royals simply don’t like going to Cleveland as they have only 16 wins in their last 54 at Progressive Field. The only thing Kansas City has worth watching right now is the play of Bobby Witt Junior. The Royals 3rd baseman is on a roll having had 14 RBI’s in his last 17 games.
