UFC 278: Usman vs Edwards 2 Betting Predictions: August 19, 2022

Written by Cartichoke

What is good fight fans? We have made it through the tough recent Fight Night cards and it led us right to a PPV in Madison Square Garden, UFC 278. I wouldn't say this is the best PPV of all time and especially for being in the summer, but there are still some decent fights to watch so let’s look at some fights and pick some winners.

The first fight I will be taking dahn to the mat is between José Aldo and Merab Bvalishvili. That was a nightmare to spell. But this is a very solid fight right here, I believe this should be the Co-Main but I’ll carry the hell on…

Aldo comes into this fight on a nice little three fight winning streak. After he lost to Petr Yan, I thought it was over for José, but then he pulled out a win against Marlon Vera which looks amazing considering the run Vera is on. He beat Pedro Munhoz by decision and then did the same to Rob Font.

For Merab he comes into this fight on a 5-fight win streak with them being his only 5 fights in the UFC. In his last three he beat John Dodson (who is no longer in the UFC), Cody Stamann (who is a good not great fighter) and Marlon Moraes (whose career took a complete nosedive and he had to retire from MMA because of it). I think Merab being the favourite here is a little suspicious.

So I am going to go with the legend José Aldo to get this one done, I know another Brazilian who people thought was done and then went on to win a title (Glover). I’m smelling the same kind of thing here with Aldo.

Pick: José Aldo ML (+115) on Coolbet

The next fight on the card is my next bet. Paulo Costa taking on Luke Rockhold. Costa comes into this fight with back-to-back losses, last fight to Marvin Vettori and before that was to Adesanya for the 185 belt. So, some pretty good losses there, the guy is still a tank lets not forget about that.

Luke Rockhold wow. I haven't heard of that name in a long time. His last fight was a very long time ago, we are talking before the pandemic, like literally months away from it. Like we're talking July 6th, 2019 is the last time we saw Rockhold in the octagon. To put that into perspective, that is the night Jorge Masvidal flying knee’d Ben Askren in 5 seconds. So, the last time we saw Rockhold, Masvidal became a superstar and now when we see Rockhold, Masvidal is at rock bottom.

But anyways, I am going to take Paulo Costa in this fight and not think twice about it, he is a beast. Rockhold is going to have ring rust and he just called out the UFC in his press conference (which did not get uploaded on the UFC YouTube channel). In his conference he talked about how fighters don’t get paid enough, and even took a shot at Barstool Sports for not doing their research, when in fact the reporter who asked the question doesn't even work for Barstool. I’ve kind of noticed a trend when fighters talk about prize purses before their fight, it doesn't end nicely for them. The only one I can think of at the moment is Tony Ferguson, who before his last fight talked about fighters not being paid enough and then in his fight…well you know what happened.

I am taking Paulo Costa ML and I am also going to take the under as well as I see this not going very long into the fight.

Pick: Paulo Costa ML (-350) on Bet365 and u1.5 rounds (-104) on Bet99
