Bellator 283: July 20

Written by Cartichoke

Bellator 283 kicks off this week and I am going to find a winner. That is my goal, that is always the goal. This is my first ever Bellator bet so let’s kick it off with a nice 1-0 to start. Let’s have at it.

Looking up and down the card, there was one thing that caught my eye, and that is Usman Nurmagomedov. Like seriously, you have a last name Nurmagomedov you are already terrifying straight off the rip. Then having a first name like Usman, like Kamaru Usman who is my P4P best fighter in the world. So that makes him even more scary.

He is only 24 years old, so he is pretty much a baby inside the octagon, he is 14-0 of course, and his last two fights haven't even made it out of the first round. His last fight against Patrik Pletilä ended in a rear naked choke victory, and the fight before that he beat Manny Muro with a knee to the body.

His opponent Chris Gonzales fighting out of Sacramento, California is part of Team Alpha Male, so he is working out with guys like Song Ya Dong, Josh Emmett and especially Urijah Faber. So that is a good gym to help get ready against a fellow from Dagestan. In his Bellator career he has a record of 6-1. Some of those wins were against some tough opponents, after he was given two cupcake matchups his third fight was actually a step up fighting a 7-1-1 Aaron McKenzie and pulling out a Split Decision, then in his next fight beat a 5-0 Vladimir Tokov with another split decision (1-0 against Russians, just a heads up).

But you don't get rich betting against guys with last names that include ‘medov’ in some way in their last name, just simple as that. See a last name like that, or a beard without the moustache. You DO NOT bet against them.

So, I would take Nurmagomedov here, but he is like a -600 favourite and I am not going to give that as a pick and feel good about myself.

I want to get sweaty with this pick so I am going to take Nurmagomedov and Gonzales o1.5 rounds.

I will be rooting for Chris here; he is almost 30 so he is going to have a bit of that old man strength taking on the young Nurmagomedov.

So let’s sweat this thing out, O1.5 rounds -110 on Betway.

I’ll see you at the top.
