NBA Picks: May 9

By Jacob Gramegna

With two NBA playoff games on the slate for tonight there is a potential for many interesting bets but I have my eye on the fierce series between the Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bucks took a 2-1 series lead after their 103-101 win in game 3. Giannis Antetokounmpo needed to drop 42 points to help secure the win and despite a 4-19 shooting performance from Jayson Tatum the Celtics had a few really good looks just before the final buzzer to send this game to overtime.

This should be a good sign for the Celtics. Giannis Antetokounmpo needed an all-time playoff performance as well as a 25 point helping from Jrue Holiday to edge out this narrow victory. They also needed an off-night from Tatum who struggled in his matchup with Wesley Matthews. The Celtics have been excellent this season at bouncing back from losses and I seriously struggle to see Tatum putting up back to back stinkers on this big of a stage.

It is also important to note that the Celtics struggled tremendously from three in this one, and typical sharpshooters Grant Williams and Jaylen Brown combined for 2/11 shooting from the outside. Game 3 was a night where so much went wrong for the Celtics yet they very easily could have come away with the win. I do not see many of their struggles repeating, and coach Ime Udoka has been great at making necessary adjustments game by game all throughout the season.

The Celtics are the best defensive team in the NBA and will adjust for game 4. They will put a lot of focus on defending Giannis and have had a certain degree of success in doing this at times in this series. When the three point shot comes back for players like Grant Williams and possibly Payton Pritchard, the defense will open up for isolation specialist Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown who still dropped 27 in game 3.

The Celtics are slight underdogs, but sportsbooks are really only giving the slight nod to the Bucks because the game is in Milwaukee. Celtics fans should feel confident in the team’s ability to bounce back, and so do I. My play for tonight is Celtics moneyline -105 (BetRivers).

Other bets to look at

I wanted to make my play for today a Desmond Bane over on points but the lines will not be released until confirmation is released on Ja Morant’s status for tonight as the Grizzlies visit the Warriors. If I can get Bane between 16.5 to 18 points, I’m taking his Over.

Betstamp is all about transparency, so whether you want to tail or fade my picks or even just check in on them to see how I’m going you can find my full documented betting record here. Admittedly I have not had the strongest start in my betstamp tracking days but am working hard and staying patient as I look to build my way back up into the green.
