NCAA Football Futures: July 11

By Michael Harty

Summertime is always a great time to build our portfolio of futures. With fewer and fewer sports on, it gives us an ample amount of time to dive in and try and find value in specific spots. After giving out my two favourite conference futures, I want to attack the Heisman market next.

Thes MVP and Heisman trophies are often won by Quarterbacks, barring a superhuman season (i.e Devonta Smith from Alabama 2 years ago). Despite the need to put up gaudy stats, you must also be playing top-end competition week in and week out. With that last sentence, you can eliminate almost half the teams, not in a Power 5 conference. The best competition lies in the Southeast Conference, and that’s where we will be looking for our Heisman winner.

Now after that last statement, many of you may think I’ll be eating the chalk and writing about why I think Bryce Love is going to repeat as the Heisman winner. Although I think he certainly is in the running, I don’t see any value in laying the +200/+300 pre-season on a number that short. Spencer Rattler is an intriguing name, last year’s preseason favourite has now joined the conference playing for South Carolina. While I don’t think his team will have enough success, I will be talking about another transfer and 1st-year player at a new school.

Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels are must-watch tv every Saturday. The most exciting show on Turf was led by Matt Corral over the past two years. Corral, an NFL Draft pick this year, was a Heisman front-runner for the majority of the season until he tailed off towards the end. Replacing Corral is no easy task, and that is why Kiffin is bringing in coveted QB Jaxson Dart. With Lincoln Riley arriving at USC, and bringing along his wunderkind QB from Oklahoma, Dart was the odd man out and entered the transfer portal. Kiffin quickly scooped him and he looks to step right in as the go-to guy in the most exciting and high-paced offense in the SEC. Given how much success Corral had, and given Dart’s previous success at USC, we can clearly see a path for Dart to take over and put up ridiculous stat lines week after week. With that being said, No QB in a Lane Kiffin offence should ever be 40/1 to win the Heisman, in my opinion at least. Best competition, best chance at putting up video game numbers, sign me up for the most exciting show on turf. Go Rebs.

Recommended Wager: Jaxson Dart (+4000) over at Fanduel, to win the Heisman
