NFL 2022-23 Playoff Parlay: August 01

By Lior Lampert

As I was scrolling through the NFL markets on DraftKings Sportsbook, a particularly unique Playoff Parlay caught my attention: The Dallas Cowboys & Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts & Tennessee Titans and the Green Bay Packers & Minnesota Vikings all to finish in the top two of their respective divisions (+400 odds). All six of these teams were in the top two of their divisions last year and I expect history to repeat itself this season.

First, let’s evaluate the Cowboys & Eagles and their division: the NFC East. The Eagles have added several talented and big-named players to their team this offseason, after finishing second in the NFC East last season with a 9-8 record. Players such as A.J. Brown, Haason Reddick, James Bradberry, Nakobe Dean, Jordan Davis have helped address multiple positions of need for what was already a playoff team last year. Last year’s NFC East division winner, the Dallas Cowboys, have had a relatively quiet offseason compared to the Eagles. Although, they were a 12-win team last season and the favourites to win the division again this coming season, so maybe it is because they didn’t need to make as many offseason moves as their division foes. Both teams are clearly a step above the other division rivals, the New York Giants and Washington Football Team, and they get to face both teams a combined four times in 17 games.

Next, is the AFC South and the Indianapolis Colts & Tennessee Titans. Similarly to the Eagles & Cowboys, the Colts and Titans are much better teams than their divisional counterparts. The Jacksonville Jaguars have had the first overall pick in the NFL Draft in consecutive seasons, which should tell you all you need to know about where they stand in the division. The Houston Texans have one of the least talented rosters in football and seemingly no sense of direction since the departure of former QB Deshaun Watson. The Colts and Titans each respectively lost their best wide receivers from last season as well as other key players, yet the gap between them and the Jaguars & Texans is still so big that they should not have any issues finishing as the top two teams of this division.

Lastly, the Packers lost their All-Pro wide receiver in Davante Adams this offseason while the Vikings are welcoming a new head to lead their team this upcoming season. While the loss of Adams will most definitely be felt, the Packers still have two-time consecutive and reigning MVP winner Aaron Rodgers leading their team. They also still have arguably the best running back duo in the NFL and one of the most intimidating defenses in the league. They also have the luxury of being in a division with teams such as the Chicago Bears & Detroit Lions, who are currently in the early stages of their respective franchise rebuilding processes.

Meanwhile, the Vikings boast one of the most talented offensive skill position groups in football and should be able to make an impact with their new offensive-minded head coach. The Vikings also expect to get their All-Pro edge rusher back and healthy to begin the season after missing 10 games in 2022. At +400 odds via DraftKings Sportsbook, this bet is a worthwhile investment barring any season-altering injuries.
