NFC East Betting Preview: August 10

By Michael Spiegel

With the NFL preseason underway, let’s have a look ahead at what this year’s NFL season has in store.

NFC East Preview

  1. Washington Commanders (+510 to win NFC East @SportsInteraction)

The most notable move coming out of Washington this offseason was the acquisition of QB Carson Wentz. Things have looked shaky for Wentz already as he has had significant inaccuracy problems during the early stages of camp. However, head coach Ron Rivera didn’t seem too concerned when he was questioned about the matter, showing his faith in the newly acquired quarterback (Commanders not 'overly concerned' about Carson Wentz's accuracy issues early in camp). While Wentz might be the answer to some of the Commanders’ problems, he could also turn out to be a disaster in Washington. After finishing 3rd last season, I think that Washington might end up slipping to last in the NFC East this year.

  1. New York Giants (+800 to win NFC East @DraftKings)

Things still aren’t looking great for the New York Giants. The team that hasn’t had a winning season since 2016; finished 2nd last in both points for and total yards in each of the last two seasons. However, despite the Giants not being ready to compete right now, their future does look bright. The Giants had a phenomenal draft, addressing two key areas for them on each side of the trenches. At fifth overall, the Giants selected defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux, who will get a ton of looks this season. He should be an exciting player to watch this season, whether you’re a fan of the Giants or not. At seventh overall, the Giants addressed a big hole in their offensive line by selecting Evan Neal. It looks like Neal will start the season as the Giants right tackle and he’ll hope to help out Daniel Jones be a little bit more comfortable in the pocket. Another key piece for the Giants will be Saquon Barkley. If the former second overall pick can bring back his game that he lost after tearing his ACL, the Giants will be a much more complete offense. The Giants are still a rebuilding team and while I think that they will improve this season, they’ll be one of the lower calibre teams in the NFL this year.

  1. Philadelphia Eagles (+180 to win NFC East @bet365)

The Eagles have a big question mark this season: Jalen Hurts. Can the young quarterback be the future of the franchise, or will the Eagles be making some big-time moves in next year’s offseason? Time will only tell, however, if Hurts can build off of some of his better performances from last season, the Eagles could be in store to potentially win the NFC East as their overall roster seems ready to make that next step. As of right now, I have them at number 2 in the NFC East, however, I think they will make the playoffs again with another wild card berth.

  1. Dallas Cowboys (+140 to win NFC East @DraftKings)

Last year’s NFC East champion and one of the top teams in football has some new challenges this year. After having a perfect 6-0 record against their division rivals last year and having the top offensive numbers in both total points and total yards, the Dallas Cowboys face some new challenges. First on that list of new challenges also presents a new opportunity. While the Cowboys lost Amari Cooper in the offseason, that does give way for CeeDee Lamb to fully embrace the number one receiver role and we shall see if he is up to the task (which I think he is). Another big loss for the Cowboys was Defensive End, Randy Gregory. We’ll see how badly that affects the Cowboys' defensive line in the coming months. When you talk about the Dallas Cowboys, it’s hard not to talk about Dak Prescott. This team either shines or crumbles on the shoulders of Dak and he seems to have taken a liking to that pressure. I think Dak is going to put up some tremendous numbers this season and carry the Cowboys to another NFC East title.
