NFC North Breakdown: August 15

By Michael Spiegel

With less than a month until regular season football begins; let’s have a look at what the NFC North has in store for this season.

  1. Chicago Bears +1400 (DraftKings)

On paper, with one of the worst rosters in football, it’s not surprising to see the Bears as the biggest underdog to win the division this year. As they continue to see if Justin Fields can be “that guy” for them, the rest of the team hasn’t improved very much at all. While they hope to see some improvement on their offensive line in order to allow Justin Fields to fully develop into a star; the Bears look like they may regress from last season’s six-win season and slump down to last place in the NFC North as they continue to rebuild.

  1. Detroit Lions +1000 (DraftKings)

The Lions seem to have plenty of faith in Jared Goff and I think he will have a much better season this year compared to last year. Having a season under his belt with his new squad, he should look more comfortable this year. Detroit’s offensive line was middle of the pack last season, which is pretty good for a bottom feeder of the league, however, they should be even better this season with Frank Ragnow back at centre. I expect the Lions to greatly improve upon their 3-13-1 record from last year and could be a sneaky long shot in making the playoffs.

  1. Minnesota Vikings +275 (bet365)

The Vikings didn’t have a half-bad season offensively last year, however, their defense struggled mightily. With Kirk Cousins signing his extension to continue playing ball for the Vikings into 2023, they seem to have confidence that he can continue to perform for them. While I don’t necessarily think they’ll be able to challenge the Packers for the division title, I think the Vikings might be able to get to 10 wins this season; improving upon their 8-9 record from last year.

  1. Green Bay Packers -182 (BetRivers)

Hard to bet against Aaron Rodgers and the team that has won 3 straight NFC North titles. Even with the loss of Davonte Adams, Aaron Rodgers has shown that he is more than capable of making do with whoever he has to throw the ball to. The Packers' defense was good but not great last season, however, they are projected to be one of the best in the NFL this season. With a relatively weak division behind them, the Packers look poised to secure their fourth division title in a row.
