NFL Fantasy Preview: Biggest Draft Sleepers – August 19, 2022

By Lior Lampert

The start of the NFL and fantasy football season are quickly upon us. We are just a few weeks away from the 2022-23 regular season opener between the Buffalo Bills and reigning-champion Los Angeles Rams. With that being said, we have until September 8th to draft our fantasy teams. it is often said that you can’t win your league in the first-round. Although, you can definitely win it in the later-rounds – these draft day sleepers could help you win your league.

First, is the Washington Commanders RB, Brian Robinson. Coming in as FantasyPros RB58 (PPR), Robinson is a rookie who was selected by Washington in the third-round from Alabama. In his first and only season as a full-time starter at Alabama, Robinson racked up over 1,600 yards from scrimmage and 16 touchdowns. Throughout the years, Alabama has become known for churning out NFL running backs practically every year. Robinson already seems to be in line for a majority of the short yardage/goal-line touches for Washington, and has upside for much more if Antonio Gibson’s nightmare of an offseason is any indication.

Gibson, who was a receiver in college, has done an admirable job transitioning to the running back position since entering the league. He has shown flashes of the talent and upside he possesses. At times, we it is also easy to see that he is still trying to learn how to play the position. He has battled fumbling issues early in his career as well as injury issues and has continued to do just that during training camp and the preseason. It has even been reported that Gibson is working with the Commanders’ special teams unit and third-string offense, a clear sign that his coach is getting impatient with him. Washington spent considerable draft compensation to secure Robinson while Gibson has given them multiple reasons to not trust him. I think Robinson has standalone value while being able to easily surpass his RB58 ranking and has upside to be a league-winner in the event Gibson gets hurt and/or is phased out of the offense.

FantasyPros WR49 (PPR), it feels like Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd is overlooked each year on draft day and always seems to prove the doubters wrong. We all know this Bengals offense is going to be good and going to score plenty of points, so fantasy managers would be wise to invest in this unit. Boyd is the cheapest investment in this offense that you can make who also carries massive upside as well while also having plenty of standalone value. In the two games without Tee Higgins last season, Boyd averaged over 17 PPR points per game. He has 76+ receptions in three of his last four seasons while eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark twice during that stretch. Boyd is a talented player, in an upper echelon offense, and is a Ja’Marr Chase or Tee Higgins injury away from being a clear top-25 fantasy receiver. At his current draft price, he makes for a no-brainer selection late in drafts.
