NFL Season Preview: Rushing King August 29

By Michael Spiegel

In today’s article, we’ll take a look at this year’s betting favorites and longshots for the NFL rushing title. After Derrick Henry won back-to-back rushing titles, injuries set him back last year and Jonathan Taylor took home his first rushing title. This year, with Henry back and ready to go, will he be able to return to his record-breaking 2020 form, or will Jonathan Taylor be able to defend his title?

Jonathan Taylor (+460 @FanDuel): Almost all sportsbooks have Taylor as the favourite to win the rushing title for the second straight season. After his breakthrough season last year where he led all running backs in rushing yards, rushing TDs, and just about every other metric; expectations are very high for the 23-year-old going into this season. With the veteran Matt Ryan manning the offense, will that open up more opportunities for Taylor or will the Colts utilize their passing game more? Only time will tell but having a capable quarterback who threatens the defense with his arm will certainly give Taylor more opportunities. Can’t go wrong with picking Taylor to defend his rushing title this year.

Derrick Henry (+750 @FanDuel): After injuries set Henry back last year, he looks good to go and be right back in the mix of things this season. At +750, that’s pretty great value for the guy who won back-to-back rushing titles and who can single handedly carry the Titans offense. Henry is an absolute beast, and as long as injuries don’t dictate his season, he could be able to reclaim his rushing title crown.

Najee Harris (+2100 @FanDuel): With the quarterback situation uncertain in Pittsburgh and a struggling offensive line in front, the Steelers will need a lot out of second-year back Najee Harris. He’ll definitely be given plenty of opportunities this year, and after finishing fourth in rushing yards last year, he should be in for one heck of a season. Definitely a player to keep your eyes on this year on a rather lacklustre team.

Saquon Barkley (+4400 @FanDuel): Barkley appears to be fully ready to go this year and get back to the form that he showed in 2018. With injuries plaguing the start of his career, Barkley is poised to have a breakout season. He has the talent to be up there with the best in the league, it’s just a matter of if injuries will set him aside. The Giants are ready for him to be their all-star running back and help out Daniel Jones in the process.
