Three Best NFL Future Bets: July 17
Tyreek Hill is one of if not the fastest players in the NFL, and he has a knack for beating DBs one on one down the field. Hill was fortunate that Patrick Mahomes, one of the best QBs in the NFL with one of the strongest arms in football, was throwing him the rock. However, with a new QB with limited arm strength, Hill will have to have a different approach to his game next season.
Looking at Tua, one thing that he excels in is his accuracy in throwing the football to the middle of the field. Tagovailoa does not have the arm strength Mahomes possesses, but he puts the ball on a silver platter for his WRs from 1-20 yards from the line of scrimmage.
The combination of Hills’ track speed and elusiveness in the open field mixed with Tua’s ability to hit targets on the money in the short game can also create a deadly combination. Hill has had some slight drop issues, but he makes up for them with his speed. There is not a single defensive player that can stop Hill one on one with the football in his hands in the open field, so I believe if Tua can get Hill the ball in space, even closer to the line of scrimmage, Hill’s speed will allow him to easily accrue over 1,025.5 yards, even if his yards per target drop tremendously this season.
The Atlanta Falcons picked 8th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, and I expect them to be even worse this coming season. At the moment, the Falcons are expected to start Marcus Mariota at quarterback who was a backup for the last several seasons. Believe it or not, this is not even the crux of the Falcons’ issues heading into 2022.
Yes, in the NFL your quarterback can make up for a lot of your team’s other issues, but not if 1. Your QB is Mariota or 2. The rest of your roster is in shambles. The Falcons have one of the worst WR units, offensive lines, defensive lines, and secondaries in all of football. I’m not sure Tom Brady could even save them.
Atlanta does not have too tough of a schedule, but they are also by far the worst team in their division. Assuming Atlanta can steal a game in divisional play, that still gives them a 1-5 record before playing anyone else. While other teams like the Lions, Texans, Jets, and Seahawks are all expected to be bad this season, these teams do not have the sheer volume of gaping holes the Falcons have. Atlanta is not just a bad team - they have all the makings to be the absolute worst team in the NFL this season.
The Commanders went 7-9 last season with one of the hardest schedules in football, a backup quarterback starting 16/17 games, and a steady dose of injuries throughout the season. Fast forward to this season, and Washington has a much better quarterback, a healthy defensive line, more weapons on offense, and new pieces to their offensive line.
The Commanders are expected to have one of the easiest schedules in football and they play in one of the worst divisions in the NFL. The Eagles may have improved, but the Cowboys got worse and the Giants, with a rookie head coach, are looking like they are heading toward another rebuilding season.
With three teams making the playoffs now, I have reason to believe Washington will make the cut. The NFC is a weaker conference in comparison to the AFC, Washington improved in almost all areas of their team, and their strength of schedule bodes well for them.
