MLS Picks: July 30

By Achyut Dixit

We have a MLS action packed Saturday coming up with 11 league games set to take place. The drama begins with Minnesota United hosting the Timbers at 3pm EST and concludes with Real Salt Lake’s visit to San Jose which kicks off at 10pm EST.

The first pick of the weekend comes from Austin’s away trip to Sporting Kansas City. Austin are currently second in the Western Conference with 41 points. Their last outing saw NYRB end their unbeaten run of 7 games but the Texan team will fancy their chances against Sporting Kansas who sit rock bottom of the conference despite playing at least one game more than any other team.

SKC were involved in US Open Cup action on Wednesday night as they were knocked out by Sacramento Republic on penalties after a scoreless 120 minutes. The long minutes from Wednesday will affect Peter Vermer’s selection for the weekend as many important players including Salloi, Russell and Espinoza played the full two hours midweek. SKC has failed to score in their last two league games as well, losing to RSL and LAFC 3-0 and 2-0 respectively. Kansas City’s playoff hopes have almost disappeared with 11 league games left to play.

On the other side, Austin are flying high with just four points separating them from the conference leader LAFC. The Verde and Black will be travelling with confidence despite last weekend’s defeat as they are on an unbeaten away run spanning five games. Josh Wolf’s team has found the back of the net in their last 13 games and have scored in all of their away fixtures except one.

SKC will be without Gadi Kinda, Alan Pulido and Ozzie Cisneros while Logan Ndenbe is expected to start after being rested midweek. Hector Jimmenz and Jhojan Valencia will be missing for Austin and Daniel Perriera could return to the starting lineup.

Pick: Austin FC ML (+165) at BetMGM

Other MLS picks:

Chicago Fire vs Atlanta United: Chicago Fire ML (+110) at Coolbet - Chicago seems to have finally found their feet and the team are in a good moment after winning three straight games. Meanwhile, Atlanta continues to struggle and has slipped to 12th in the Eastern Conference.

Charlotte FC vs Columbus Crew: Columbus Crew ML (+210) at BetMGM - Crew is unbeaten since acquiring Cucho Hernandez. Their last game was a 0-0 draw against New England, but they should be firing again this weekend.
