Major League Soccer Picks: June 14

By Achyut Dixit

The MLS is serving us with two midweek fixtures before it properly restarts at the weekend. The CONCACAF champions, Seattle Sounders, will host the Vancouver Whitecaps in Lumen Field on Tuesday night. Orlando will be on the road on Wednesday to face the New England Revolution.

The Sounders are sitting on a disappointing 11th spot on the Western Conference table. It’s a culmination of injuries, Champions League exertions and underperformance that sees them so low on the table. However, they have played at least two games less than every other team in the conference and the upcoming four home games in June give them a chance to move upward and into a playoff spot.

Seattle have already conceded 16 goals in the MLS, which is almost half of the goals they conceded (33) in the 2021 regular season. But only 5 goals have been conceded at home by the sounders. As was required, Rui Diaz hit the ground running after returning from injury, The Peruvian scored in all three of Seattle Sounders league wins in May. Most importantly, the 80th minute winner in their last game against Charlotte, that could have been the biggest upset of the season.

The Whitecaps sit just above the Seattle Sounder in the Western Conference. They finally picked up their first away win of the season on May 28th by beating Sporting Kansas and were able to build on that as they found a 93rd minute winner against Real Salt Lake at BC Place. Four times, since the start of May, the Whitecaps have scored in the 90th minute or later to get a result.

The Caps will be without their leading goal scorer, Lucas Cavallini as he is competing in the Nations League for the national team. Cristian Dajome, Russel Tiebert and Thomas Hasal are injured for the Whitecaps. Jao Paolo remains out for the Sounders due to an ACL tear.

Andres Cubas, signed from Nimes in Ligue 2, can make his much anticipated debut tonight. While the Caps are in impressive form, winning four of their last three, we don’t see them getting a result away at Lumen Field. This will be the chance for Seattle to start rejuvenating their league season.

Seattle would want to keep a clean sheet to improve their defensive record and the Caps will find it hard to find the net without their leading goalscorer.

Pick: Seattle to win & both teams to score +170: No (Betway)

Other Soccer Picks:

New England Revolution vs Orlando City: Orlando City or Draw +110 (bet365) Orando can get a result against a revolution side who are still adjusting their attack to make up for losing Buska during the season.
