MLS Picks: June 29

By Achyut Dixit

Midweek Major League Soccer action is set to kick-off at 7:30 PM (EDT) on Wednesday. 9 MLS games will take place this week with a large chunk of 7 games happening on Wednesday.

Toronto FC coming off a 2-1 home win over Atlanta United will host Columbus Crew at BMO. The two are level on points in the Eastern Conference with Columbus having a game in hand over the Canadian side. Toronto FC is showing signs of having the ability to revive their season. The Reds booked their ticket to the Canadian Championship final last week after smashing their arch rivals Montreal 4-0. Last weekend they put in another impressive performance to win all three points against a resurgent Atlanta United. BMO Field had a great energy around it as the new star signing, Lorenzo Insigne, watched from the stands.

Bob Bradley’s team will be confident heading into their third home game in a row. Jonathan Osorio also seems to be getting back to his best after the injury as he started and opened the scoring against Atlanta. Toronto’s only injury issue is Noble Okello suffering from an abdominal issue.

On the other hand, the Ohio based team will be coming off a stalemate draw against Real Salt Lake. Like TFC, the Crews have made a signature signing themselves in Cucho Hernandez. However, it’s expected that his debut won’t come till mid-july. Caleb Porter’s side have been underperforming this season and they were unable to build on their 2-1 away win over Atlanta United, and were held to draws by both Charlotte and Real Salt Lake.

Jonathan Mensah returned to the starting eleven last weekend after missing the draw with Charlotte FC, and the Ghanaian is expected to start again alongside Milos Degenek. James Igbekeme and Yaw Yeboah are expected to start alongside Miguel Berry in attack with Luis Diaz and Derrick Etienne being the other options.

We are expecting TFC to continue their upward trajectory and register another home win.

Pick: TFC vs Columbus Crew: TFC to win +160 (Caesars)

Other MLS picks:

Chicago Fire vs Philadelphia Union: Philadelphia to win +215 (LeoVegas). Union will be coming off a big win against the holding champions whereas Chicago continue to struggle and are the team with the least points.
