EPL Picks: May 27

By Ryan Nadrajan

Saint-Denis's Stade de France in Paris will be the setting when two of Europe’s giants clash in the 2021/2022 UEFA Champions League Final. Liverpool FC will challenge the club that has won the most titles (13) in history, Real Madrid FC. If Liverpool comes out on top they would have seven titles, putting them in a tie for second place all-time along with AC Milan.

Currently, the 3-way odds are in favor of Liverpool at +105, with Real Madrid +250, and a draw +275 (Bet99).

The two teams met each other in last year’s tournament during the quarter-finals with Real Madrid prevailing. The loss didn’t sit well with many Liverpool players including Mo Salah, who said he preferred if Real Madrid were to advance over Manchester City in this year’s finals so he could enact their revenge. The road to the final has been much more favourable for Liverpool who faced the likes of Inter Milan, Benfica, and Villareal. It was much tougher for Madrid as they had to endure top clubs like Paris-Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

Real Madrid managed to pull out victories in the knockout stages all while being outplayed for the majority of the matches. In all six matches, they trailed in possession metrics and scoring chances. It was the supernatural abilities of the best striker in the world Karim Benzema, who made it happen for the La Liga champions, scoring goals in an abundance (15), leading the competition.

Liverpool has won the EFL Cup and FA Cup already this year and will look to add to the trophy case. Both of those games had to be decided in penalties, with the full-time score being 0-0. Losing out on the Premier League title by one point, this Liverpool squad will be extra motivated come match-day to bring home the hardware.

The tactical affair between managers Jorgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti will be on full display at 9 am EST/12 pm PST. As much as I would like to see Real Madrid aka the “Comeback Kings” win another champions league, it’s very hard to overlook this Liverpool team. They will control the possession, create more scoring opportunities, and if does go to penalties they have proven they are confident taking spot-kicks under pressure. Liverpool can cause trouble with their corners as well, a place where Madrid has been exposed a few times during their season and this competition. Unless Benzema has more magic left in his bag, I believe Liverpool will edge out a close one.

Pick: Liverpool To Lift Trophy -167 (Bet99)

Other bets to consider for this game:

Total Goals over 2.5 -120 (Sports Interaction) - With offensive threats like Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Karim Benzema, and Vinicius Junior there should be plenty of chances for both sides to find the back of the net. There is always a possibility for an extra time frame as well which makes this total playable.
